Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya continued to receive boos in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after he replaced Rohit Sharma as skipper of the side. The trend followed at Wankhede Stadium against Rajasthan Royals since the start of the game.

Fans chanted 'Rohit Rohit' throughout the match to express their anger over the captaincy change. The chants were so louder that commentator Sanjay Manjrkar had to intervene at the toss and asked the crowd to 'behave' and give a big round of applause for Hardik before he flipped the coin. However, nothing changed as rhythmic 'Rohit Rohit' chants continued with Mumbai's disappointing show in the first home clash of the season.

The situation aggravated further and Rohit, who was fielding on the boundary line, came in defence of the all-rounder and urged the crowd to stop booing Hardik with a calm-down gesture.

Put in to bat first, MI were off to a disastrous start as they found themselves tottering at 20 for four in the innings' fourth over in their season's first home game.

Pandya responded with a 21-ball 34, while Tilak Varma chipped in with 32 in 29 deliveries.

Veteran pacer Trent Boult bowled extremely well to finish with 3/22, while leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal ended with excellent figures of 3/11, including picking the big wicket of Pandya when he was looking good for more runs.

In-form Riyan Parag scored an unbeaten 54* off 39 balls to power Rajasthan Royals to a comfortable six-wicket win.

With the result, Mumbai Indians lost their third consecutive match in the season while Rajasthan Royals defended their winning streak and moved to the top of the table with six points in three games.
