IPL 2026 Retention: The excitement about IPL 2026 has gone through the roof. JioStar, who are the official broadcasters of this tournament, have revealed on Saturday that all the teams will be revealing their retentions and list of released players on 15th November. A few moments after the Men in Blue had won the T20I series against Australia after the fifth match in Gabba was abandoned, the broadcasters revealed the date for the much-awaited IPL retentions.
As per reports, the auction for the next season will be held later this year. Teams will be putting in the hard yards to reveal their list before the mini auction. The mega auction was held last year to give the teams a chance to build their teams for a three-year cycle.
Besides retentions ahead of a mega auction, there's no limit on the number of players a team can retain.

A lot of teams, as per reports, were in touch with the trading window, where players were traded or bought. The trading window begins seven days post-season and ends before the auction.
Since the retention deadline is a few days away and the mini auction is looming, this buildup has led to a frenzy of speculation. The biggest highlight is the prize of Indian core players. All the teams have become cautious of releasing domestic stars, especially those who are all-rounders or wicketkeeper batters.
Speculations are rife that KKR might pick KL Rahul as their next captain-wicketkeeper-batter. Delhi Capitals bought him for Rs 14 crore at the mega auction, where he had scored 539 runs after playing in 13 matches. As per reports, DC has been involved in potential trades for Rahul.

Sanju Samson is another big player who is part of the rumour mill. As per reports, he had urged RR to release him before the 2026 auction. Lots of teams like Chennai Super Kings have shown their interest, where CSK were in talks with RR after DC.
A few expensive players from the mega auction last year, like Venkatesh Iyer, are most likely to be released.
The retention list will give the teams a clear idea of their player pool and their purse when they will enter the mini auction.
