Kolkata Knight Riders kept their IPL 2026 playoff hopes alive with a dominant eight-wicket win over Delhi Capitals on Friday. It was KKR’s fourth straight victory, and the team produced a complete performance with both ball and bat.
The win was set up by KKR’s spin bowlers, who completely slowed down Delhi’s batting after a quick start. Anukul Roy, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy controlled the middle overs brilliantly and made scoring extremely difficult on a slow surface.
Delhi Capitals eventually finished on 142 for 8, which never looked enough. Pathum Nissanka was the standout batter for the hosts, scoring a fast fifty from just 29 balls. But after his dismissal, Delhi lost momentum and struggled to find boundaries regularly.
Ashutosh Sharma gave the innings some late energy with a fighting 39 off 28 balls, hitting three fours and three sixes. Without his effort in the final overs, Delhi may not even have crossed 100.
KKR’s pace bowlers also played an important role. Kartik Tyagi picked up two wickets, while Vaibhav Arora and Cameron Green chipped in with one each to keep Delhi under pressure throughout the innings.
Chasing 143, KKR lost a couple of wickets early, but Finn Allen completely took control of the game. Coming in as an Impact Substitute, the New Zealand batter played a stunning innings and attacked the Delhi bowlers from the beginning.
Allen smashed an unbeaten 100 from just 47 balls, hitting 10 sixes and five fours during his match-winning knock. His fearless batting made the chase look easy as KKR reached the target in only 14.2 overs.
Delhi did get some lucky moments in the field. Ajinkya Rahane was run out after the ball deflected onto the stumps at the non-striker’s end, while Angkrish Raghuvanshi was dismissed in an unusual manner when the ball brushed his glove and rolled back onto the stumps.
But none of that stopped Allen, who continued to dominate the bowling attack with clean hitting all around the ground.
Earlier in the match, Delhi had started positively through Nissanka and KL Rahul. The Sri Lankan batter looked confident and played several aggressive shots early on. However, once KKR introduced their spinners, the game slowly shifted.
Narine and Roy bowled tight spells, while Chakravarthy built pressure by giving away very few runs. The lack of boundaries forced Delhi’s batters into mistakes.
Nissanka reached his half-century with a boundary but was dismissed on the very next ball while trying to attack again. Roy then removed Tristan Stubbs in the same over, which pushed Delhi further into trouble.

The middle overs completely belonged to KKR, with their bowlers not allowing Delhi any freedom. Ashutosh Sharma finally provided some late fireworks, ending a long boundary drought with a six before adding a few more big shots in the death overs.
