IPL 2026 Retention: All ten teams of IPL are busy finalising their teams before the mini auction for the next season. The Governing Council of the IPL had set November 15 as the deadline by which the teams will reveal their list of retained players and the players that they will let go for the next season.
Since the IPL 2026 auction will be held on 15th December in Abu Dhabi, all the teams will try to retain their preferred players and look out for potential trade deals. Since the deadline is just around the corner, here's everything you need to know about IPL 2026 retentions.
How many players can a team retain?
All the teams can retain or release as many players as they want with no restrictions. The teams are allowed to change their teams as per their needs. But they must stay within the salary purse limit of Rs 120 cr.
All the teams can build a squad of up to 25 players, which also includes eight overseas players.
What are the IPL trade rules?
All the teams can trade players with others and can exchange players of the same value. When players of different values are traded, the final decision of retaining or releasing a player depends on the team.
Players can also be traded in all-cash deals, where a player is traded for money. A player's consent is important for any trade.
What is the duration of the IPL trade window?
As per IPL rules, the trade window starts once the season ends and stays open a week before the auction, and then again reopens one month before the next season. But all those players who are bought at the auction won't be traded.
