Jasprit Bumrah, Shikhar Dhawan return for SL T20s, ODIs against Australia; Rohit Sharma rested in T20I

New Delhi | Jagran Sports Desk: The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) on Monday announced the squad for the upcoming series against Australia and Sri Lanka. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah and opener Shikhar Dhawan have returned to the squad while Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami have been rested.   

India will take on Sri Lanka in three T20 Internationals from January 5, followed by three ODIs against Australia from January 14. 

Jasprit Bumrah was out of action from international cricket owing to a stress fracture of the back, announced chairman of selectors MSK Prasad after a meeting of the five-member panel in New Delhi while adding that opener Shikhar Dhawan, who was out of the game due to a knee injury, has also returned to the squad. 

The left-hand batsman had sustained the injury during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in November. The injury forced him to skip the limited-overs leg against West Indies. KL Rahul had replaced in the playing XI, making full use of the opportunity.   

Meanwhile, vice captain Rohit Sharma and pacer Mohammed Shami have been rested from the T20 squads.

The Men in Blue will face Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series, starting from January 5. The second and the third T20Is will be played on January 7 and 10 respectively.

After facing the Sri Lankans, the Indian team will face Australia in a three-match ODI series. The first ODI will be played on January 14 in Mumbai. The remaining two matches will be played on January 17 and 19.
