PAK vs NED T20 World Cup 2026: Pakistan batter Saim Ayub endured a moment of embarrassment in the side’s ICC T20 World Cup 2026 opener against the Netherlands at the Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on Saturday.
Ayub, who had scored 24 runs in Pakistan’s chase of 148, miscued a no-look shot as the ball fell kindly to Roelof van der Merwe off Aryan Dutt’s bowling.

The Netherlands posted a total of 147 runs in 19.5 overs thanks to sizeable contributions from Michael Levitt, Bas de Leede, Colin Ackerman, and Scott Edwards, while Salman Mirza registered a thee-fer for the Pakistani unit, while Mohammed Nawaz, Abrar Ahmed, and Ayub all claimed a couple of wickets each.
Pakistan, however, survived a scare to register a 3-wicket win over the Dutchmen as Sahibzada Farhan top-scored with 47 runs, while Salman Ali Agha added 12 runs. Babar Azam chipped in with 15 runs before the Dutch found a way back into the game with wickets in regular intervals.
Usman Khan was set back for a duck, while Shadab Khan and Mohammed Nawaz fell cheaply. However, Faheem Ashraf came to Pakistan’s rescue with his unbeaten 29-run knock off just 11 deliveries to take his side over the line with three deliveries to spare, as Shaheen Shah Afridi remained unbeaten on 5 runs.
