Australian wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis made history with his second Test century during the third Test against South Africa at Newlands on Thursday. The right-handed batter scored a quick hundred to put Australia in a strong position in their first innings.

Inglis reached the three-figure mark off just 132 balls, helping Australia take the lead after South Africa posted 329 in their first innings. His knock also put him in a special category among Australian batters.

Josh Inglis Becomes First Australian To Achieve Unique Feat

With his latest century, Inglis became the first Australian cricketer to score multiple centuries in all three formats of international cricket.

The wicketkeeper-batter already has two centuries in T20Is and ODIs, and his latest effort took his Test century tally to two. His first Test hundred came against Sri Lanka during Australia’s tour of the island nation last year.

Only three Australian players have scored more than one century in T20Is. Apart from Inglis, Glenn Maxwell has five T20I hundreds, while former captain Aaron Finch has two.

However, neither Maxwell nor Finch has managed to score multiple centuries in all three formats.

Maxwell has four ODI centuries and one Test hundred, which came against India in 2017. Finch, meanwhile, scored 17 centuries in ODIs but never managed to register a Test hundred.

This makes Inglis the first Australian to achieve the milestone across Tests, ODIs and T20Is.

Inglis Makes Strong Comeback To Australia’s Test XI

The century was even more special for Inglis, who returned to Australia’s Test team after a long absence. His previous Test appearance came during the 2025 Ashes series at home.

The wicketkeeper-batter had been recovering from a fractured finger suffered during the ODI series against South Africa. He returned to the side for the series-deciding Test as Australia made four changes to their playing XI.

Inglis was joined by Cameron Green, Nathan Lyon and Cooper Connolly in the team.

Josh Inglis, Alex Carey Put Australia In Control

Australia were in a strong position when Inglis came out to bat, with the visitors at 184/3. However, Green’s dismissal for 65, followed by another quick wicket, left the team needing a steady partnership.

Inglis found support in fellow wicketkeeper Alex Carey as the pair helped Australia recover and finish the second day in a strong position.

The 30-year-old continued his attacking approach on Day 3 and brought up his century in style. He reached the milestone with a reverse sweep against Simon Harmer, having faced 132 balls.

Inglis eventually fell to Harmer for 102. His innings included 11 fours and two sixes, giving Australia a valuable contribution as they looked to build a first-innings lead over South Africa.
