IND vs BAN, 3rd T20I: Nick Pothas, who is the fielding coach of Bangladesh has reckoned that they are looking for a proper role for star all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the shortest formats. The team management has recalled him for this series against India and also as Mahedi Hasan's replacement. After being snubbed from the 2024 T20 World Cup squad, he was included once again in the T20Is after almost a year and also as Shakib-al-Hasan's replacement in this format.

He came into bat at the No.7 position in the series opener in Gwalior, where he scored a gritty knock of 35 runs. And then in the second T20I in Delhi, he played at the No.5 position and could score just 16 runs. Pothas called Miraz a versatile batter as he can bat both as a top and middle-order batter for the team.

"It's very conditions and we're very fortunate to have Miraz because he can bat at the top of the order, and he can bat at the middle order, and we have seen the progress he has made from a batting point of view," Pothas told reporters in the pre-match press conference.

'Very fortunate to have a cricketer of Mehidy's standing'

The young Mehidy has failed to fire with the ball in this series. He bowled just one over in the series opener in Gwalior, where he took the wicket of Sanju Samson, but had a forgetful outing in Delhi as he registered figures of 3-0-46-3.

"You know we have tried him at the top with the ball, which he has done well in the past. The last game, it can happen, it's T20. He gives us options because he has three skills which are of a very high quality,” he revealed.

"So at the moment because he wasn't at the T20 World Cup again, we are going to be using him in different positions to find a role where he will play for the future. But at the moment we are very fortunate to have an international cricketer of his standing to be able to use wherever we think he fits in for that particular game and conditions," he concluded.

The Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side had already lost the three-match T20I series by 2-0 and now they will aim to bounce back in the third and last match in Hyderabad on Saturday.
