Pakistan batter Mohammad Haris had to return home after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) refused to issue him a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) for the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

Haris, part of Chattogram Challengers' squad, had already played in two overseas T20 tournaments for the July 2023 to July 2024 period, permitted by the PCB. He participated in the Lanka Premier League and the Global T20 Canada in July-August last year, representing B-Love Kandy and Surrey Jaguars, respectively.

Expressing disappointment, Haris thanked Chattogram team management and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for the opportunity. He had arrived early to prepare for the tournament but learned that the NOC would not be issued.

"Thank you, Chattogram team management and the BCB for taking care of me and giving me this opportunity. I also flew in on time to prepare myself to give some great games to my fans in Bangladesh. Unfortunately, my NOC was not issued. Hence, I will not play any games. I knew my team needed me. Hopefully, I will join them next year. I will definitely miss playing the BPL," EspnCricinfo quoted Haris as saying.

Haris shared his frustration on Instagram with a picture of his packed bags and a route map back to Peshawar, accompanied by emojis symbolising a home and a zipped mouth.

The PCB also withheld NOCs for Saim Ayub, Zaman Khan, Fakhar Zaman, and Iftikhar Ahmed, preventing their participation in the BPL.

Babar Azam, Mohammad Wasim Junior, Mohammad Rizwan, and Abbas Afridi will travel from Christchurch to Dhaka on Monday to participate in BPL 2024. Usman Qadir, Faheem Ashraf, and Khushdil Shah are already participating in the tournament.

BPL Season 10, the tenth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League, kicked off on January 19, 2024, and it will run until March 1, 2024.
