Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar praised Virat Kohli and said he played a big role in the team’s success, not just with his advice on batting but also with the way he supported younger players throughout the season.

Rajat Patidar credits Virat Kohli for improving his batting

Patidar, who scored over 500 runs in RCB’s second straight IPL title win, said Kohli was always around to guide the team whenever needed.

“He really helped me with my batting, especially against fast bowlers. Whenever I spoke to him, he shared useful ideas. What I like most is that he is always there for the team. Even young players who feel nervous can easily go up to him,” Patidar said.

Talking about leading the side, Patidar said stepping into the stadium brought back memories of last year, but he focused on staying in the present.

“It feels amazing. A lot of memories came back from last year, but we knew we had to stay focused on this game. I don’t really have words, I just feel very happy,” he added.

He also said the team was clear about their plan in the final.

“We knew chasing would be easier on this pitch. Our plan was to target their top order early. The bowlers did a great job throughout the season. Bhuvi, Hazlewood, Rasikh, Krunal, Shepherd, everyone contributed,” he said.

Patidar on winning two consecutive titles

Patidar reflected on his journey, saying he never imagined winning two IPL titles with RCB or becoming captain.

“I never thought this would happen. Last year there was pressure, but this time we were more confident and calm. Our preparation before the tournament was also very good,” he said.

He ended by thanking the fans in Kannada, saying: “Ee sala cup namdu which means the cup is ours again.”
