Rohit Sharma has come up with an interesting reaction on his plans for the ODI World Cup 2025. He will be in action after a long wait during the upcoming ODI series against Australia, which begins in Perth on October 19.

There has been a massive talk around Rohit's ODI future as soon as he was replaced as India's captain in the format by Shubman Gill. Having already retired from the Test and T20I formats, Rohit made it to the 15-member ODI squad for the Australia tour. Speaking to a Make-A-Wish child in a now-viral video, Rohit promised that he will be playing in the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup — and that he is determined to help India lift the one trophy that has eluded him so far.

When the young fan asked Rohit whether he would still be in action when the next World Cup comes around, the former skipper responded with a warm smile and a firm commitment: yes, he will be there, and he will give it everything to bring the title home.

This development has come amid the heavy speculations with some reports claiming the Australia series being the last for Rohit and Virat Kohli before the end their respective stellar careers. Rohit came painfully close to ODI World Cup glory in 2023 as skipper, when he led a dominant Indian side all the way to the final before suffering a heartbreaking loss to Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Under his captaincy, India went on to clinch the titles in the T20 World Cup 2024 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. With an eye on the next ODI WC, Rohit reportedly went under a massive body transformation as he lost 10kg during an intense training phase under former India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar.

Recently, the BCCI chief selector turned down the speculations as he confirmed that the Australia series will not put an end to Rohit and Virat's careers.

"Look they [Rohit and Kohli] are part of the squad at the moment for Australia," Agarkar said during NDTV World Summit 2025 on Friday. "In two years' time, we don't know what the situation is going to be. So why just them two? It could be some other younger players [who might miss out on the tournament]."

"That would be a bit silly, isn't it, when one averages over 50 and the other averages close to 50?" Agarkar said, when this was put to him. "You are not going to put them on trial in every game. But 2027 is a long way away, both of them play one format […] they haven't had a lot of cricket [in recent months]. Once they start playing, then you assess as you go forward.

"They are not on trial, they've achieved all they had to achieve, not just winning trophies but runs [as well], so it's not that if both of them don't get runs in this series that will be the reason they won't be there, or if they get three hundreds, [that will be] the reason they play 2027.

"It's still a long way away, we'll see how the team shapes up, but we have some ideas, and as we go along we'll probably have a better idea of where the team is progressing."
