India Shreyas Iyer said that he is open to rotating his batting spot in the ODIs after slamming a 90-ball 105 against Australia in the second ODI coming at the No. 3 spot.

Iyer asserted that he is not a threat to Virat Kohli’s spot and is willing to adjust his role according to the match situation. In the absence of seniors including captain Rohit Sharma, Kohli and vice-captain Hardik Pandya. Wicketkeeper KL Rahul is leading the side and registered back-to-back wins to claim take 2-0 unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. India defeated Australia by 99 runs (DLS method) in a rain-marred game in Indore.

Iyer made his comeback in the series after missing the Super Four matches in the Asia Cup due to back spasms. His century knock included four sixes and six fours coupled with Shubman Gill’s 104 to take India’s total to 399/5 in 50 overs.

“It was a rollercoaster ride, feeling fantastic. My team-mates, friends and family were there for my support. I was seeing the matches on TV, I wanted to be out there and participate in the matches. Grateful to be believing in myself. The pain and niggles kept on coming, but I knew what I was aiming for. Glad that I was able to execute my plans perfectly today,” Iyer said in the post-match presentation on Sunday.

“Basically when I went in to bat, I didn't want to complicate things. I wanted to get my eyes set, that's how I give confidence to myself. I am flexible, ready to bat any position, whatever my team needs me to do. Virat (Kohli) is one of the greats, there's no chance of stealing that (number 3) spot from him. I just need to keep scoring wherever (at any position) I bat,” he added.

Chasing a revised target of 317 in 33 overs, Australia were bundled out for 217 in 28.2 overs. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja clinched three wickets each while Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Shami scalped two and one wicket each.

For the final and third ODI, Rohit, Virat, Hardik and Kuldeep Yadav will return to the side after being rested for the first two games while Jasprit Bumrah will rejoin the squad in Rajkot after missing the last game to meet his family.

The third ODI between India and Australia will be played in Rajkot on Wednesday, September 27.
