India National Cricket Team vs England Cricket Team Match Scorecard

After bowlers breathed fire to skittle out England for 248 runs, batters Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel bossed the chase with their respective half-centuries to guide India to 4 wickets win over the visitors at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur on Thursday.

India chased down the target in 38.4 overs to gain a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.

India was sluggish in the chase of 249 as England pacer Jofra Archer's persistent efforts finally paid off as he claimed a crucial wicket of opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Bowling from around the wicket, Archer delivered a masterful ball on the off stump, which seams away from Jaiswal to induce an outside edge.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma's innings came to an abrupt end as he fell prey to a soft dismissal from Saqib Mahmood. His brief stay at the crease yielded just 2 runs off 7 deliveries.

After both openers went back in the hut, Shreyas Iyer launched a stunning counterattack against Jofra Archer, smashing two consecutive sixes off short-pitched deliveries. Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer raced to a 50-run partnership in a little over 5 overs.

In the 13th over, Iyer swept Jacob Bethell through the leg side for a four and brought up his half-century. However, Iyer's brilliant innings came to an end as he was dismissed by Bethell after scoring 59 runs.

Gill, who was struggling with cramps, brought up his fifty in 60 balls. Meanwhile, promoted up the order, Axar Patel repaid the coach's faith with a lovely half-century in Nagpur, his 3rd ODI fifty and first in India.
