IND vs SL Asia Cup 2025 Super 4: India had beaten Sri Lanka during a thrilling Asia Cup match on Friday. The match finished with scores tied after 40 overs. While batting first, Abhishek Sharma yet again shone brightly as he scored a match-winning knock of 61 runs off 51 balls, whereas Tilak Varma scored an unbeaten knock of 49 runs. On the back of their brilliant batting prowess, India had posted a mammoth target of 202 runs, and it was the highest total in this edition.
Abhishek's sublime form is a huge boost for the Men in Blue, but they do have a lot of concerns that need to be addressed before the summit clash against arch-rivals Pakistan. India's skipper Suryakumar Yadav's form is the top-most thing. He has been having a forgetful year, and if he doesn't make a comeback, then the team will be suffering. Shubman Gill, too, hasn't lived up to those expectations.
He did show signs of his older self, but hasn't been able to do much. The youngster was backed a lot during the power play as he did provide the team a flying start a few times, but he hasn't been able to convert those starts. And Sanju Samson's coming back to form is a huge boost to the team.
While chasing, Sri Lanka's Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera shone brightly. They had built a partnership of 127 runs and had put the team on the verge of registering a remarkable win. But with Perera's dismissal, the team suffered a collapse. Nissanka did try to help the team come back, even though he didn't receive from the other batters.
He had scored 108 runs and should have taken the team across the line, and Dasun Shanak too scored a brilliant knock of 22 runs off 11 balls and took the match towards a super over.
What happened in the Super Over?
While bowling first, Arshdeep Singh had dismissed Kusal Perera on the ball itself. It did look strange when Sri Lanka didn't send in Nissanka as the other batter. At the same time, Arshdeep bowled a brilliant over and Sri Lanka could just two runs.
In reply, it was quite easy for the Men in Blue as they had won the match on the first ball itself of the Super over. Suryakumar Yadav had scored the winning runs.
