T20 World Cup 2024: India's Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan will be returning back home after the team's last group match in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 against Canada in Florida on June 15.

Both the players, who are on the team's reserve list for the marquee tournament, reached Florida with the rest of the teammates on Wednesday but will not be travelling to the West Indies for the Super 8 stage.

The decision to release Gill and Avesh from the squad came as per the late call taken by the team management.

Apart from those two, Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed are the other travelling reserves but both of them will continue to stay with the squad.

“It’s a call by the Indian team management. As per the original plan, both Gill and Avesh were supposed to travel for the entire tournament but the management has now decided to release them,” a source was quoted as saying.

The reserve players were training with the main squad in New York where the Men in Blue played their first three matches and won all of them.

Khaleel, Avesh and Rinku were even spotted cheering for the side from the stands during the high-octane clash against Pakistan but Gill was a notable absentee.

The young batter didn’t travel to the stadium for that match and stayed back in the hotel.

The Rohit Sharma-led side extended their dominance at the top of Group A with their recent win over the USA and sealed the Super 8 qualification.

They will be looking to maintain the momentum against Canada and head into the Super 8 sage as undefeated.

The forecast in Florida is not encouraging and there has been some rain since the team touched base.

The team rested on Thursday, June 13 and is scheduled to travel and train on June 14 but everything will depend on the weather conditions.

India kicked off the campaign with a comfortable win over Ireland before they played out a thrilling contest against the arch-rivals Pakistan, winning it by just six runs.

The Men in Blue made it three out of three with a seven-wicket victory over the co-hosts USA at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.
