Bangladesh T20 World Cup 2026 Controversy: Bangladesh skipper Litton Das was asked a question related to the ongoing stand-off between the BCB, the BCCI and the ICC regarding the venues for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026, which is scheduled to kick off on February 7. While the tournament will be played in India and Sri Lanka, the Bangladesh Cricket Board urged the ICC to shift their matches.
The ongoing political and cricketing tensions between India and Bangladesh have created a massive uncertainty about the T20 WC. Bangladesh have cited security reasons, asking to shift their matches from India to Sri Lanka, or else they might opt out of the tournament. While the BCB will make its stance official on Wednesday, January 21, on the whole controversy, Litton stated that it is not safe for him to comment on the matter.
Notably, the ICC seems reluctant to accept BCB's request, and multiple meetings have not yet yielded any results. The Bangladesh skipper hinted at the uncertainty regarding their participation in the T20 World Cup, noting that they were not even sure whether the team would take part in the competition. "Are you sure we are going to play the World Cup? From my side, I am uncertain; everyone is uncertain. I think the whole of Bangladesh is uncertain at this moment. No answer. I understand what question you are going to ask. That is not safe for me. No answer," said Litton.

Recently, the Bangladesh government's sports advisor, Asif Nazrul, clarified that under no condition would the national team travel to India for the T20 World Cup. If the BCB remains adamant about not travelling to India for the 20-team tournament, Scotland is likely to replace Bangladesh as per current rankings.

"I am not aware that Scotland will be included in our place. If the ICC bows to pressure from the Indian Cricket Board and tries to impose pressure on us by setting unreasonable conditions, we will not accept those conditions," Nazrul told reporters.
"In the past, there were examples where Pakistan said they would not travel to India, and the ICC changed the venue. We have asked to change the venue on logical grounds, and we cannot be coerced into playing in India by illogical pressure," he added.
The whole controversy started when the BCCI directed the Kolkata Knight Riders to remove Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman from their IPL 2026 squad. The big decision was taken amid public and political backlash with the rise in the killings of Hindus in Bangladesh.
