T20 World Cup: Mitchell Marsh Shuts Down Reporter Over India-Pakistan Match Boycott Questions, Says 'Solely Focussed On Winning'

India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup Match Controversy: Australia captain Mitchell Marsh sidestepped questions on Pakistan's decision to boycott the match against India in the T20 World Cup and Bangladesh's tournament exit, preferring to keep his focus on the team's campaign.

The buildup to the T20 World Cup started with controversies as Pakistan's decision to boycott the India match and Bangladesh's shock removal from the tournament dominated headlines.

After his side was handed a 0-3 T20 series whitewash by Pakistan, Marsh was asked about the T20 WC controversies by the home side media.

The Australia skipper was also questioned about his thoughts on the off-field drama that has outweighed the build-up to the big event, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka starting February 7.

Marsh emphasised his team's determination to win the title, avoiding any distractions from off-field controversies.

"I don't have any comment on that at this point. We are going to the World Cup to just focus on what we are doing, we will let that stuff take care of itself," he responded, answering the question on Pakistan's boycott of the India game on February 15 in Colombo.

The reporter also pressed him about Bangladesh being ousted from the event after refusing to tarvel to India, citing "security concerns."

"The same goes for my previous answer. We are going to the World Cup to try and win it and we are solely focused on that. As the Australian team, we trust the people there to keep us safe and that's all I would say," he said.

Marsh soft-pedalled the setback against Pakistan and the obvious weak handling of spinners here.

"In isolation, this series, we struggled," Marsh admitted. "But over the last 18 months, we've been one of the best teams in the world and we've played spin really well. So, we'll take the learnings forward to the World Cup. We know we're a very good side in all conditions, so looking forward to the World Cup," he said.
