Batting great Virat Kohli bounced back in style in the second ODI against England, which is taking place at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. The legendary batter completed his half-century, and with that he achieved a massive milestone.

The former India captain had a disappointing return to international cricket in the first ODI after recovering from the hamstring injury he suffered during the IPL 2026 final. Playing his first ODI since the injury, Kohli was dismissed for just five runs and failed to make an impact.

However, the star batter responded in emphatic fashion in the second ODI at Edgbaston, Birmingham. He reached his half-century with a boundary off Sam Curran in the 27th over, returning to form when India needed him the most.

The fifty also helped Kohli surpass Sachin Tendulkar to become India's third-highest run-scorer against England in ODI cricket.

Before the match, Tendulkar held the third spot with 1,455 runs in 37 matches at an average of 44.09, including two centuries and 10 half-centuries. Kohli started the game with 1,402 runs and needed 59 more runs to go past the Master Blaster. His fluent knock took him beyond that landmark.

Kohli now has more ODI runs against England than Tendulkar, adding another significant achievement to his illustrious career. He has also registered three centuries and 11 half-centuries against England in the 50-over format.

The 36-year-old is now closing in on another major record. Former India captain MS Dhoni remains India's highest run-scorer against England in ODIs with 1,546 runs in 44 innings at an average of 46.84. Dhoni also scored one century and 10 fifties against England.

If Kohli continues his rich vein of form in the remaining matches of the series, he could overtake Dhoni and become India's highest run-scorer against England in ODI cricket.

Earlier, Kohli surpassed Dravid to become India's highest run-getter with the most international runs scored in England.

Kohli needed only four runs in the second ODI against England on Thursday, July 16, to go past Rahul Dravid’s record. He reached the milestone in style by hitting a boundary off Jofra Archer during the ninth over of India’s innings.
