Star batter Virat Kohli had a 'surreal' experience during his two-month break from cricket where he felt the privilege of walking on the road without getting recognised.

Kohli slammed 77 in 49 balls studded with two sixes and 11 fours to guide Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to their first win of the season against Punjab Kings on Monday.

Opening up for the first time on his return to action after welcoming his second child - Akaay, Kohli revealed that he and his wife actor Anushka Sharma were not in the country and were having plenty of family time with their elder child Vamika.

"We were not in the country (talking about his break). We were in a place where people were not recognising us. Just time together as a family, just to feel normal for two months - for me, my family - it was a surreal experience. Of course having two kids, things become totally different from a family perspective. Just the ability to be together, the connections you make with your older child," Kohli said in the post-match presentation.

"Couldn't have been more grateful to God for the opportunity to spend time with the family. It's an amazing experience to just be another person on the road and not be recognised. That's the promise I can give here - I'll keep turning up and keep trying me best," he added.

The 35-year-old returned to action in the opening encounter of the Indian Premier League 2024 edition against defending champions Chennai Super Kings. He played a slow knock of 21 off 20 balls in the comeback match.

Kohli opted out of the five-match Test series against England citing personal reasons. India won the series 3-1 after under Rohit Sharma's leadership to keep their decade-long home Test series win record intact.
