West Indies vs Sri Lanka Highlights: Sri Lanka secured a comfortable five-wicket win over West Indies in the rain-truncated first ODI in Pallekele, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. After the match was reduced to 37 overs due to rain, Sri Lanka chased down a revised target of 232 with 31 balls to spare.

West Indies, opting to bat first, struggled against Sri Lanka’s disciplined bowling attack. Wanindu Hasaranga’s key wickets of Brandon King and Alick Athanaze pegged the visitors back, leaving them at 54 for 3. Shai Hope’s early dismissal, confirmed via DRS, added further pressure. Sherfane Rutherford, however, stood out with an unbeaten 74, building crucial partnerships with Keacy Carty (46-run stand) and Roston Chase (84-run partnership), pushing West Indies to 229 before rain interrupted.

Sri Lanka’s reply got off to a rocky start as Alzarri Joseph struck early, reducing the hosts to 45 for 3. However, debutant Nishan Madushka (69) and skipper Charith Asalanka (77) formed a match-winning 137-run partnership that swung the game decisively in Sri Lanka’s favor. Despite late wickets by Gudakesh Motie (3 for 47), Kamindu Mendis (30*) and Janith Liyanage (18*) ensured Sri Lanka cruised to victory, with Mendis sealing it in style with a six off Jayden Seales.

Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka praised Nishan Madushka for his brilliant knock on debut.

"Thank you so much, it was a convincing win and we batted really well. First, my plan was to attack from the outset, played with a positive mindset. I think me and Nishan batted well. I think more than 15 overs we got a chance with the wet ball, they couldn't grip the ball properly and myself and Nishan did well," Asalanka said.
