Women's ODI World Cup 2025: Devajit Saikia, who is the BCCI secretary, has revealed that they are planning a special tribute for the late singer Zubeen Garg in the Women's ODI World Cup opening ceremony. Zubeen recently passed away in Singapore in a scuba diving accident. He was known for making Assamese music popular in the country and was also known for the famous song 'Ya Ali' from the 2006 movie Gangster.

In order to pay tribute to him, the Assam cricket association has planned special performances in the opening ceremony of the 2025 women's ODI World Cup, which is all set to begin from next week in Guwahati.

“The youth icon, musical legend, and cultural symbol of Assam, Zubeen Garg, has sadly passed away. His mortal remains have arrived in Guwahati today. Assam is currently engulfed in deep grief and sorrow over this tragic loss. In light of this situation and in honour of a person who truly deserves our deepest respect, the Assam Cricket Association, along with BCCI, is planning a tribute during the opening ceremony of the Women’s World Cup,” Saikia was quoted as saying to India Today.

At the same time, he also revealed that they will be finalising the artist lineup soon and that singer Shreya Ghoshal would be performing during the opening ceremony.

“We are currently working on the arrangements and trying to include a segment dedicated to Zubeen Garg. Final details regarding the artist lineup will be confirmed by this evening. However, a 40-minute program in his memory is being planned, and Shreya Ghoshal, who was already scheduled to perform, will also be part of the tribute,” he concluded.

The Women's ODI World Cup 2025 is all set to start from next week, where India will lock horns with Sri Lanka during the tournament. This is the third time that India will be hosting the mega event, as it had earlier held it way back in 1997 and then in 2013. At the same time, before the mega event, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side suffered a 2-1 defeat to Australia in the three-match ODI series on Saturday. Before this match, the series was leveled at 1-1, but the host lost the third match by 43 runs. Before the mega event, the Women in Blue will be playing two warm-up matches against teams like New Zealand and England.
