A Crime Branch team has successfully busted an interstate syndicate involved in the printing and circulation of counterfeit Indian currency notes (FICN) in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, arresting three key members of the gang.
The arrested accused have been identified as Rakesh Arora of Vijay Nagar, his brother Ravi Arora of Mohalla Baksaroya, Shahjahanpur and Vivek Kumar Maurya of Mohalla Tilhar Jai, Sadar Bazar Police Station area, Shahjahanpur.
From their possession, authorities recovered:
- Counterfeit notes worth Rs 324,000
- 122 sheets of paper for printing unfinished counterfeit notes
- A printer, paper, and materials used for printing
- Specific chemicals and powders for embossing images on the notes
- Green tape used in place of the security 'ribbon'
- Documents And A PAN card
Police are currently interrogating the accused to determine where they circulated the counterfeit notes and are searching for other members involved in the gang.
The Investigation And Arrests
According to Deputy Commissioner Vikram Singh, ASI Deepak Kumar received a secret tip-off that an organised gang was circulating FICN in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. A case was registered with the Crime Branch, and a team was formed under the supervision of ACP Rajbir Malik, led by Inspector Vinay Kumar.
First Arrest: Acting on the information, the team first arrested Rakesh Arora from the North Gate Mall area. A search revealed 200 counterfeit notes of Rs 500 denomination in his possession. During interrogation, Rakesh revealed that the notes were provided by Vivek Kumar Maurya of Shahjahanpur through his (Rakesh's) brother, Ravi Arora.
Second Arrest: Following this lead, the team traveled to Shahjahanpur and apprehended Ravi Arora in a raid on his house. A search of a wooden showcase yielded 35 counterfeit notes of Rs 500 denomination Rs 17,500.
Third Arrest: During questioning, Ravi provided information about Vivek, who was allegedly printing and supplying the counterfeit notes. The team then raided Vivek's rented residence in Mohalla Tilhar Jai. He was caught in the act of printing counterfeit notes of various denominations on his computer and printer setup.
During the search of Vivek's residence, police recovered a large quantity of counterfeit notes, unfinished currency sheets, and the associated printing materials. They also found a PAN card and an SBI passbook issued in the name of Gaurav Mishra, which were reportedly used to receive funds from the other accused.
