Delhi Air Pollution: Delhi’s air quality deteriorated sharply on Thursday, with the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) touching 300 and entering the ‘severe’ category, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). A day earlier, the Supreme Court approved significant revisions to the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) for the Capital Region, endorsing short-term measures recommended by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to tackle the worsening winter pollution crisis.
Several monitoring stations logged AQI levels above 400, with the CPCB’s Sameer app identifying Wazirpur as the most polluted area at 477. In contrast, Lodhi Road recorded the lowest AQI among 39 stations at 269, which still falls in the ‘poor’ category.
Delhi-NCR AQI
Delhi-NCR’s air quality remained alarming, with Noida (403-408) and Ghaziabad (426-427) in the Severe zone, while Greater Noida (395-396), Gurugram (302), Baghpat (379), Hapur (366), Muzaffarnagar (317), Sonipat (315), and Meerut (314) all recorded Very Poor AQI levels.
Area-Wise AQI In Delhi
Data from the CPCB-developed Sameer app showed Wazirpur as the worst-affected area with an AQI of 477, placing it in the ‘severe’ category. Lodhi Road recorded the lowest AQI among 39 monitoring stations at 269, still within the ‘poor’ range.

Major pollution hotspots, including Anand Vihar (427), RK Puram (424), Punjabi Bagh (441), Mundka (441), Jahangirpuri (453), Burari Crossing (410) and Bawana (443), were among 21 locations reporting ‘severe’ air quality. Other high-pollution zones such as Aya Nagar (369), IGI Airport T3 (373), Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (392), Mandir Marg (375) and Pusa (377) fell under the ‘very poor’ category.
Delhi Weather
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department recorded a minimum temperature of 10.2 Degree Celsius and a maximum of 28.3 Degree Celsius on Wednesday. It added that moderate fog is likely, with Thursday’s temperatures expected to hover around 27 Degree Celsius (maximum) and 11 Degree Celsius (minimum).
GRAP Measures Proposed
The proposed changes introduce stricter actions earlier in the pollution cycle, moving some Stage 4 measures (triggered when AQI exceeds 450) to Stage 3 (AQI 401-450), shifting Stage 3 measures to Stage 2 (AQI 301-400), and advancing Stage 2 directives to Stage 1 (AQI 201-300).
