The Delhi Police Special Cell averted a major catastrophe, as it foiled an ISIS-style attack by two operatives in a densely populated area of the national capital region during the festive season of Diwali.

The Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP), Special Cell, Pramod Kushwaha, said in a press conference, "They had conducted a recce of several crowded places, including a mall in south Delhi and a park, where they planned to execute the strike during the festive season of Diwali."
The ACP further said that the two accused, both named Adnan and hailing from Bhopal, were in contact with a foreign handler, whom they considered their amir. The handler is suspected to be residing outside the country and operating from the Syria-Turkey border.

Preliminary investigation revealed that both the accused were using multiple Instagram accounts to circulate extremist content and stay in touch with their handler. In the course of the operation, the police found a laptop, several pen drives, incriminating videos related to ISIS propaganda and a flag.
The police suspect that these materials were used to make an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). A video was also recovered by the police, showing both operatives pledge their allegiance to ISIS.

One Of The Accused Arrested By ATS In UP
Earlier, one of the accused, Adnan, was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh ATS in June 2024 for posting a threatening message on social media to kill the surveyor of the Gyanvapi mosque. He was allegedly overlooking the online propaganda and media-related work for the terror outfit.
The other accused, whose father is a government employee, was apprehended from Sadik Nagar on October 16. The Special Cell had kept tabs on the movement of both suspects, with parallel leads developed in Delhi and Bhopal.

One of the accused, Adnan, was earlier arrested by the Uttar Pradesh ATS in June 2024 for issuing threats on social media to kill the person who ordered a survey. He was reportedly handling online propaganda and media-related work for the terror group. The second Adnan, whose father is a government employee, was apprehended from Sadik Nagar on October 16.
The operation was led by Inspector Sunil and Dhiraj, under the supervision of senior officers of the Special Cell.
