Under the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' (Cleanliness is Service) campaign, Delhi's Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, visited Chandni Chowk and personally swept the pavement in front of the Gauri Shankar Temple.

During her visit, she expressed displeasure over the filth, piles of rubbish, and broken pavements in various areas, directing officials to rectify these issues. The Chief Minister emphasised the significance of the location, stating, "This area of Chandni Chowk is a heritage site. Hundreds of thousands of people visit here. It is also a very important place for business organisations."

She noted that cleanliness becomes even more essential during festivals, as the area contains many religious sites and is a route for religious processions (Shobhayatras). "There is a need to improve cleanliness here," Gupta said, pointing out that dustbins, grills, and pavements were broken or damaged in several places. "We have reviewed the arrangements with officials and have given instructions to improve them." She also added that local shopkeepers need to be vigilant in this matter.
