The Delhi government is planning a major administrative overhaul in Yamunapar, aiming to improve governance and reduce public inconvenience. Under the proposed changes, the current three administrative districts, North-East, Shahdara, and East, will be reorganised into two districts, with the Shahdara district being abolished. The draft aligns administrative districts with municipal corporation zones to streamline operations.

Currently, administrative divisions often overlap with municipal corporation wards, confusing jurisdiction. The new structure will ensure each Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) knows the exact municipal wards and assembly constituencies under their control, and citizens will be aware of their designated SDM. The restructuring is also intended to support the government’s plan to establish mini-secretariats in the area.

The number of subdivisions in Yamunapar will be reduced from nine to seven. Key changes include retaining Seemapuri and Shahdara sub-divisions in the Shahdara North zone, while Vivek Vihar sub-division will be split between Shahdara North and South.

Names of several divisions will also change, and the areas will be realigned to ensure that residential and market areas fall under their corresponding divisions; for instance, Gandhi Nagar will now come under the Gandhi Nagar division.

The draft also specifies details for each division, including assembly ward coverage:

-Shahdara North Zone: Seemapuri, Seelampur, Shahdara, Karawal Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Vishwas Nagar, Kondli

The draft has been circulated among administrative and municipal officials for feedback and will seek cabinet approval in the coming months before implementation.
