The Delhi government is preparing to roll out a new skill development scheme through the Delhi Khadi and Village Industries Board (DKVIB). A high-level meeting at the Delhi Secretariat on Monday discussed the launch of a Skill Enhancement Scheme for the Cotton Industries, aimed at generating employment and preserving traditional crafts.
With an outlay of Rs 50 crore, the scheme will provide training to over 13,900 unemployed youth, artisans, and other beneficiaries during 2025-26, in partnership with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and NGOs.

The government has set targets to ensure at least 20 per cent self-employment and 50 per cent paid jobs for those trained under the programme. Covering courses including apparel merchandising, logistic work, khadi/handloom fashion, IT help desk, and self-employment tailoring, the scheme offers a Rs 400 stipend to the participants for up to 5 months.
Other benefits of the scheme include certification, loan assistance, free tool kits for over 2500 artisans and complementary craft market visits for over 500 artisans. Under the scheme, the participants will have the opportunity to attend a 10-day exclusive workshop on the Entrepreneurship Development Program (EDP) on business basics and digital marketing.
Setting up training centres in every district of Delhi, the government has reserved 50 per cent seats for the SC, ST, OBC, EWS and women.
