In a major relief for more than one lakh residents, the Delhi High Court has ordered the lifting of the ban on issuing electricity connections to properties booked by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for illegal construction.
For nearly three years, electricity connections to such properties had been barred following an order passed by the Consumer Grievance Redressal Forum.

South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said the number of applicants awaiting electricity connections had crossed one lakh, leaving many residents struggling. He added that the situation arose during the Aam Aadmi Party’s tenure in the MCD.
The High Court, expressing surprise that people had been living in these properties for years without access to electricity, directed that the ban be removed.
The court’s order is expected to provide immediate relief to thousands of households that have been unable to secure power connections due to pending construction-related bookings.
