Police have arrested a man for the robbery and murder of Suresh Kumar Rathi, a Delhi Jal Board engineer, who was stabbed to death in his flat in the Begumpur police station area of Rohini district, Outer Delhi.
The accused, identified as Bunty, was arrested on Wednesday. Police stated the motive for the murder was robbery.
The Incident
During questioning, the accused told police he had met the deceased just a few days prior and had attended parties at Rathi's flat on two previous occasions.
On his third visit, on the night of October 31, Bunty partied with the engineer. Afterward, he stabbed Rathi in the neck, causing his immediate death. The accused then stayed in the flat with the body throughout the night. The following day, he fled the scene after stealing the deceased's gold chain and cash.
The Investigation
A police officer from Rohini district stated that the incident was reported on Monday afternoon. The deceased's son, Ankur, informed police that his father had been missing for two days.
Ankur told police that he lives with his parents in Pocket-16, Rohini Sector-24. The flat where the body was found, located in Pocket-10, Rohini Sector-24, also belonged to his father, who would visit it occasionally for upkeep. When Rathi did not return home or answer his phone for two days, his body was discovered at the second flat on Monday.
Upon receiving the information, police teams from the district's Special Staff and Begumpur police station began tracking the accused.
Investigators scrutinised CCTV footage from the vicinity, which showed a young man entering the flat with Suresh Kumar Rathi but not leaving that night. Footage from the following day showed the same man leaving the flat on foot and wearing a hoodie, which obscured his identity.

The police investigation revealed that Bunty has been previously involved in three criminal cases. The stolen gold chain and cash have been recovered. Police are still working to locate the knife used in the incident and have registered a case under the relevant sections.
