Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka have been summoned by the Delhi Crime Branch in a case related to trespassing at Jantar Mantar, a day after they were released on bail by the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court.
They have been summoned to the Crime Branch's Rajouri Garden office on Thursday. They were released after they furnished new surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each.
In their written undertaking, Das and Ranka had vowed not to make a fresh call for protest at Jantar Mantar till the time it remains de-notified. They further added that any future protests would be held within the constitutional framework.
Saurav Das was bailed out by a Ghaziabad professor, and Ranka was bailed out by his wife. Ranka's wife is from Varanasi and lives in Bengaluru, while the Ghaziabad professor runs an NGO. They had to come to Delhi to provide bail.
During the hearing, the Delhi Police had earlier sought a further three-day extension of their judicial custody, citing concerns over a possible breach of peace and law and order.
The two CJP leaders were detained by the Delhi Police after they sneaked in at Jantar Mantar on the October 13 protest, which had been de-notified as a designated protest site. Police alleged that they entered the area through the Janta Dal (United) office, a private premises, and violated conditions relating to maintaining peace, which they had assured in their bail bonds during a previous release on October 11.
