The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has allocated Rs 735 crore to address persistent issues of water loss from damaged pipelines, contaminated water, and overflowing sewers in the city. The funds are designated for the replacement of old water and sewer lines.
This amount has been allocated for the 68 constituencies of Delhi, excluding New Delhi and Delhi Cantt. A provision has been made to spend varying amounts for each constituency based on their specific needs.
Budget Breakdown
The total sum is divided into two categories:
Capital Expenditure (Rs 408.95 crore): These funds will be used for laying new pipelines, replacing old sewer lines, constructing underground reservoirs, and strengthening the overall water supply system.
Revenue Expenditure (Rs 326 crore): This portion will be spent on maintenance, repairs, sewer line cleaning, and other service improvement works.
Ministerial Statement
Water Minister Parvesh Verma stated that funds have been allocated to resolve issues related to drinking water supply and sewerage according to the needs of each constituency. He added that this will enable MLAs to have work carried out based on the requirements of their respective areas.
The minister noted that work has already commenced in several locations and a change will be visible soon.
Monitoring And Transparency
To ensure transparency and timely implementation, a Project Management Unit (PMU) has been established to create a monitoring and audit system.

All projects will be geo-tagged and tracked in real-time to ensure the proper use of funds and the timely completion of work.
