A proposal to restore Delhi’s historical identity as ‘Indraprastha’ is gaining momentum, with a draft already prepared for the change. BJP MP from Chandni Chowk, Praveen Khandelwal, said that the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation will soon be renamed the “Indraprastha Redevelopment Corporation,” and in the future, the city administration could be referred to as the “Indraprastha Government.”
The resolution to revive the ancient glory of Indraprastha was discussed at a historic meeting organised by the Indraprastha Yogkshem Nyas (Trust) at the Constitution Club. The event saw the presence of key dignitaries, including VHP Central Organising General Secretary Vinayak Rao, General Secretary Bajrang Bagra, and Provincial Secretary Surendra Gupta.

Speaking at the event, Surendra Gupta emphasised the historical significance of the name Indraprastha. He said, “While ‘Delhi’ recalls only two thousand years of history, ‘Indraprastha’ connects us to five thousand years of glorious past. The city’s name should be changed to reflect this heritage.”
Gupta proposed renaming key landmarks, including the Old Delhi Railway Station to “Indraprastha Railway Station” and Indira Gandhi International Airport to “Indraprastha International Airport.” He also suggested that monuments of Hindu kings be incorporated into Delhi’s heritage walks and memorials of Pandava-era heroes be built near sites associated with Muslim invaders.
Vinayak Rao highlighted the valour of Delhi’s Hindu emperor, Raja Hemchandra Vikramaditya, who re-established Hindu rule in the city, albeit briefly. Rao called for a grand memorial for the king, inclusion of his life in educational curricula, and the establishment of a “Raja Hemchandra Vikramaditya Sainik Vidyalaya” (military school).

MP Praveen Khandelwal further announced plans to install grand statues of the five Pandavas in the Indraprastha area, describing the initiative as a demand resonating with the sentiment of Hindu citizens. Bajrang Dal’s Central General Secretary Bajrang Bagra spoke about the ancient legend of an iron peg in the Aravalli hills, which is linked to Delhi’s historical name evolution from ‘Dhilli’ to ‘Delhi.’
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Subhash Agarwal, President of Indraprastha Yogkshem Seva Nyas. Other dignitaries present included former Bengal MP Locket Chatterjee, Bajrang Dal Central Convenor Neeraj Danoria, Mahant Vaibhav Sharma, Shravan Goyal, Ramniwas Seth, and Shri Ramesh Sharma.
