Delhi Mosque Action: A bulldozer action was carried out in the encroached area near the Faiz-e-Ilahi mosque in Delhi's Turkman Gate area, following directions from the Delhi High Court. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) launched a demolition drive in the wee hours of Wednesday (January 7) to remove encroachments near the iconic mosque at Turkman Gate, close to Ramlila Maidan, sparking tension in the area. Following the MCD's action, locals in large numbers gathered there, which led to a clash with the police. Five policemen were injured in the incident.

A large contingent of Delhi Police personnel was deployed to maintain law and order during the demolition drive. The entire area was divided into nine zones, each overseen by an officer of the rank of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police. An adequate police force was deployed at all sensitive points. Approximately 17 bulldozers were brought in to remove the illegal structures in the area.

Five Injured In Clash Between Locals And Police
According to the police, before the demolition drive, several coordination meetings were held with members of the peace committee and other local residents to maintain peace and prevent any untoward incidents. However, some "mischievous elements" tried to create unrest by pelting stones, leading to clash between protesters and police personnel. Police said the situation has been quickly brought under control. Six persons were arrested for attacking cops.

DCP Nidhin Valsan said, "About 25-30 people were involved in stone pelting on police teams in which five policemen sustained minor injuries. We had to use tear gas to control the situation. There was a banquet hall, a dispensary which have been demolished. The drive was conducted in the night keeping in mind that people should not face any difficulty. We will take action against those who were involved in stone pelting. Situation is 100 per cent under control here."
