With the high demand for firecrackers during the festive season, the Delhi Police has intensified its crackdown on the sale and storage of polluting firecrackers, which are completely banned in the capital. The Crime Branch is actively running a campaign against those selling these prohibited items.

In the latest actions, two separate teams from the Crime Branch conducted raids in Mandoli, SamtaVihar, and Mukundpur, arresting four accused and seizing a total of 1,036 kg of banned firecrackers of various types and brands from their possession. The illegal stock was reportedly purchased from Meerut and Gurugram and was intended for sale in Delhi, with the accused even offering home delivery to customers.

Major Racket Busted In Mandoli

According to DCP Aditya Gautam, in the first case, the Crime Branch busted a firecracker supply racket and arrested three individuals: Bhagwati Prasad, his son Tarun Singhal and Rajiv Goyal. A case has been registered against them under relevant sections of the Explosives Act.

The operation began on October 1 after the Crime Branch received a tip about a supplier in Mandoli. An informant placed an order, and at 11:45 pm, a police team led by ACP Ramesh Chandra Lamba and Inspector Shivraj Singh Bisht arrested Bhagwati Prasad and his son Tarun on their scooter in Mandoli.

Based on their interrogation, police first raided their shop near Nand Nagri Gate, recovering 71 boxes of banned crackers. The duo then revealed their supplier, Rajiv Goyal. A subsequent raid on Goyal’s godown on Main Mandoli Road led to the seizure of a massive cache of 818 boxes of prohibited crackers. Goyal confessed to having purchased the illegal stock from Meerut.

Second Seizure In Mukundpur

In another case, DCP Pankaj Singh of the Crime Branch reported that based on a tip-off on September 30, a team led by ACP Ashok Sharma and Inspector Ajay Kumar Sharma conducted a raid in SamtaVihar, Mukundpur.
