Delhi Air Pollution: Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) surged into the “severe” category on Wednesday, crossing 400 and reaching 428 at 9 am, up sharply from 362 on Monday. Visibility dropped significantly, with readings of 600 metres at Safdarjung and 700 metres at Palam around 6:30 am

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) air quality bulletin, Delhi’s 24-hour average AQI on Tuesday was 428, the highest in the country. Noida followed with an AQI of 425, while Bahadurgarh recorded 421. In response, a subcommittee of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) convened an emergency virtual meeting to address the situation.

Delhi-NCR AQI Today

The air quality across the Delhi-NCR region remained alarming on Wednesday. Delhi recorded an AQI of 428, placing it in the “severe” category. Noida followed closely with 425, Greater Noida registered 406, and Ghaziabad recorded 390. Gurugram’s AQI stood at 378, while Faridabad had a relatively lower reading of 298.

GRAP 3 Stage Implemented In Delhi-NCR 

1. Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), implemented on Tuesday, is effective across Delhi, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Buddh Nagar, banning construction and demolition activities and restricting BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers, except those used for essential services.

2. Non-essential diesel-operated medium goods vehicles and BS-IV light commercial vehicles registered outside Delhi are prohibited from entering the capital while the restrictions remain in force.

3. Delhi's Directorate of Education has directed all schools to conduct classes up to Class V in hybrid mode, and the Commission advised Delhi and NCR governments to stagger office timings for public and municipal employees, with similar instructions issued to the Centre for offices in Delhi-NCR.

4. The ban on most construction activities is expected to affect thousands of daily-wage labourers across the NCR region.

Area-Wise AQI In Delhi Today

Wazirpur recorded the highest AQI at 458, with other areas showing similarly high pollution levels, including Alipur (431), Anand Vihar (438), Ashok Vihar (439), Aya Nagar (404), Bawana (451), Burari Crossing (439), Chandni Chowk (449), and Mathura Road (428).

Meanwhile, several other locations also reported hazardous AQI levels: Dr Karni Shooting Range (429), Dwarka Sector-8 (424), ITO (433), Jahangirpuri (446), Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (421), Mejay Dhyanchand Stadium (406), Mandir Marg (413), Mundka (444), Narela (437), Nehru Nagar (440), North Campus (429), Okhla Phase-2 (410), Patparganj (436), Punjabi Bagh (437), Pusa-IMD (423), Pusa-DPCC (418), RK Puram (431), Rohini (422), Sonia Vihar (434), Sri Aurobindo Marg (406), and Vivek Vihar (436).

Group Three Citizens' Charter:

1. Prefer cycling or walking for short distances.

2. Use clean modes of transport for commuting, including ride-sharing.

3. Work from home if possible.

4. Avoid burning coal or wood for warmth.

5. Provide electric heaters to keep security guards warm.

6. Keep trips brief and essential

Delhi Weather 

On Wednesday, Delhi is expected to experience a maximum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to drop to 12 degrees Celsius.
