According to data released by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), 60 new cases of malaria were reported last week, compared to 38 in the previous week.
The capital has recorded 431 malaria cases so far this year, the highest in the last four years. In comparison, 430 cases were reported in 2024, 321 in 2023, 125 in 2022, and 113 in 2021. The majority of malaria cases have been reported from the West and Central Delhi zones, with 66 and 56 cases, respectively.

Chikungunya cases have also increased, rising to 75 this year, which is 51 more than last year. Dengue, while still a concern, has seen a relatively smaller increase, from 74 cases in the last week of September to 81 in the first week of October. So far, Delhi has logged 840 dengue cases, around 50 per cent lower than the 1,630 cases recorded last year.

How to Prevent Mosquito-Borne Diseases:
-Change the water in decorative plant pots at home every three to four days
-Keep coolers clean and change their water every three to four days
-Do not allow water to collect in broken cups, plates, open containers, pots, etc., on the roof
-Keep water tanks covered
-If you store water in containers, keep them covered, or else empty them every four days
-Ensure that water draining from window air conditioners does not collect in any vessel or on the roof
-Wear full-sleeved clothes and shoes when outdoors, especially in parks
Symptoms of Malaria (caused by the bite of the female Anopheles mosquito):
-Sudden high fever
-Severe headache, especially behind the eyes
-Severe muscle and joint pain (also known as 'breakbone fever')
-Vomiting
-Red rashes on the body
Symptoms of Dengue (caused by the bite of the female Aedes mosquito):
-Fever, chills, and shivering
-Sweating.
-Headache.
-Vomiting.
-Muscle pain
“We are continuously working to raise public awareness. Our staff are conducting door-to-door checks to prevent mosquito-borne diseases. In addition to fogging, anti-mosquito sprays are also being used,” said Raja Iqbal Singh, Mayor, Delhi.
