A labour from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, allegedly killed his 19-year-old sister by drowning her in a canal after discovering her romantic relationship. He reportedly sat beside the body for over an hour before calling the police and confessing to the crime on Monday.
The accused has been identified as Aditya Yadav, while the victim, his sister Nitya Yadav, a 12 class student, was reportedly in a relationship with a man for the past three years, according to the NDTV report. Aditya allegedly became upset after seeing her apply vermilion on her forehead, a symbol of marriage in Hindu culture. Despite repeatedly trying to convince her to end the relationship, Nitya refused to do so.
When And How Did Aditya Killed His Sister
According to the NDTV report, Nitya reportedly left her home on Sunday and did not return that night. The next day, she was located at a nearby restaurant in the company of her alleged partner. According to police statements, her partner, Aditya, attempted to convince her to return home. However, when she reportedly remained resolute, he allegedly took her to a secluded area approximately 2.5 kilometres from the house, where he assaulted her, resulting in a head injury, and pushed her into a canal.
Body Sent For Post-Mortem, Accused Taken Into Custody
Police retrieved the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination. Aditya has been taken into custody, and legal action is underway, said Jitendra Srivastava, Superintendent of Police, Gorakhpur.
Aditya lived with his two sisters and a brother. Following his father’s death, he took on the responsibility of supporting and educating his sisters, working as a labourer to provide for the family.
