Delhi To Build New Flyover Between Mahipalpur-Bijwasan To Relieve Traffic Congestion Near Yashobhoomi | Details

Delhi Flyover:A new flyover is set to be constructed to ease traffic congestion and improve daily commuting for residents in South Delhi. The Public Works Department (PWD) is preparing to carry out a feasibility study for the construction of the flyover, which will span from NH-48 (near Mahipalpur) to the Bijwasan Railway Overbridge. PWD will soon appoint an agency to carry out this study.

The primary objective of this project is to alleviate congestion in Southwest Delhi and provide an alternative route to the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre. The Delhi government aims to de-congest a 5.5-kilometre stretch of Najafgarh-Kapashera Road, which lies between NH-48 and the Dwarka Expressway.

The Najafgarh-Kapashera Road begins near Samalkha, passing through Bharthal, Bijwasan, Sector-28, and Chhawla before reaching Najafgarh. This road, which spans approximately 15–16 kilometres, is heavily used by commuters. Its most congested section lies between NH-48 (near Mahipalpur) and the Bijwasan Railway Overbridge. Additionally, the road connects with the Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road, making it an essential route for many.

Currently, the 800-metre-long, four-lane Bijwasan flyover, located near the Bijwasan Railway Station, is proving inadequate for the present traffic demands. The pressure on this route has been steadily increasing over the past 10–12 years, leading to frequent traffic jams and gridlocks in the area.

Once the new flyover project is completed, commuters will have an alternative route to various sectors in Dwarka, alongside NH-48 and the Dwarka Expressway. Motorists travelling from Mahipalpur to Dwarka will be able to use the flyover along the Najafgarh-Kapashera Road to reach the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre, Sector-28, Pochanpur, and other areas in Dwarka.

Diverting Dwarka-bound traffic before NH-48 will also help reduce congestion on the 1.5-kilometre stretch of the highway. This diversion is expected to significantly ease the traffic jams that typically occur during peak hours on this part of NH-48.

In addition to the construction of the new flyover, PWD plans to extend the existing Bijwasan flyover by approximately 1.5 kilometres. This extension will help to further ease traffic flow in the region, ensuring smoother and quicker commutes for thousands of daily travellers.
