In a significant step to enhance transport facilities for daily commuters, the Delhi government is set to launch the ‘Bharat Taxi’, India’s first cooperative taxi. Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will formally launch the platform at Vighyan Bhavan in New Delhi on February 5, 2026.

Aimed at competing with private firms, like Ola, Uber and Rapido, the service will offer cars, auto-rickshaws, and bikes, catering to diverse travel needs. It will be accessible on both Android and iOS platforms.

The platform is built on the driver-owner model, with each driver holding five shares and no commission deducted per ride. The users will be able to use the app at a fee of Rs 30 daily.

A awareness rally has been planned for the drivers at the launch, with around 2.5 lakh vehicles to be registered initially. As per the officials, the platform will be 30 per cent cheaper than existing ride-hailing service.

The Bharat Taxi aims to simplify travel by integrating with existing transit services, such as Metro rail. This allows users to seamlessly book and complete multi-modal journeys using a single app for maximum convenience.

A strategic tie-up with the Delhi Police ensures the safety of riders and drivers. Speaking in the Parliament, the Union Ministry on Tuesday said that the app aims to free the country's commercial vehicle drivers from dependency on private ride-hailing companies.
