Operation Trashi-I: A suspected Pakistani terrorist was killed Wednesday evening during an ongoing operation in the snow-covered higher areas of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district. This marked the fifth encounter in the Chatroo area in the last 18 days, as the Army and police continued their efforts to track down a group of terrorists linked to the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant group. 

"One terrorist has been successfully neutralised. Operation is in progress," Army's White Knight Corps wrote in a post on X.

"In the continuing search and elimination of terrorists in the Kishtwar region, where the hunt has already led to several contacts in the dense forests and challenging terrain, a contact was re-established with the terrorists on the run in the ongoing joint operation (Trashi-I), by the troops of Counter-Insurgency Force Delta, White Knight Corps, J&K Police and CRPF at around 5.45 pm today in the general area of Dichhar, Kishtwar.

The officials said the latest encounter started when a joint search party were carrying out searches in Sanjinala-Dichhar in Chingam forest. 

Despite the entire Chatroo belt being covered in snow, the Army persisted in their pursuit of the terrorists following the initial gunfight in Sonnar village near Mandral-Singhpora on 18th January, which resulted in the death of a paratrooper and injuries to seven other soldiers.

Nevertheless, the terrorists managed to flee, taking advantage of dense vegetation and difficult terrain. They were later intercepted a few kilometres from the site of the first encounter on 22nd January.

Although the forces were once again unsuccessful, they continued their search for the terrorists, even as the area experienced more than two feet of snowfall, leading to two additional gunfights on 26th and 31st January, according to officials.
