In anticipation of the heavy passenger rush during the Diwali and Chhath Puja festivals, railway authorities have decided to temporarily halt the sale of platform tickets at major railway stations in the region. This measure is being implemented to manage crowds and ensure that only passengers with confirmed tickets are allowed onto the platforms.
The sale of platform tickets will be suspended from October 15 to October 28 at the following stations:
- New Delhi
- Old Delhi
- Hazrat Nizamuddin
- Anand Vihar Terminal
- Ghaziabad
This restriction applies to all points of sale, including ticket counters, the mobile app, and Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs).
Officials stated that this step is necessary because relatives and friends accompanying passengers often buy platform tickets, which leads to overcrowding on the platforms. During the festive season, when passenger numbers surge, this additional crowd can create significant management challenges.

However, an exemption has been made for elderly, female, and differently-abled or uneducated passengers who may require assistance. Their companions will be permitted to enter the platform to help them board their trains.
