A 27-year-old law student from Delhi University’s Campus Law Centre (CLC) was stabbed to death in the Sangam Vihar area on Friday following a petty dispute over cleanliness. The Neb Sarai police have registered a murder case against four individuals, including a minor.
The Victim
The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Mohammad Irshad, a resident of Gali Number 3/14, Sangam Vihar.
Background: Irshad was pursuing a law degree at DU and usually resided near his college campus.
Reason for Visit: He had returned to his Sangam Vihar home on Thursday night to collect medicine and was scheduled to return to his college accommodation on Friday morning.
Sequence Of Events
The victim's sister, Halima, was an eyewitness to the crime. According to her statement, the incident unfolded as follows:
The Trigger: A dispute arose between Irshad’s mother and their neighbor, Rihana, regarding cleanliness.
Intervention: Irshad intervened to de-escalate the situation. He calmed the parties down, sent his mother inside the house, and continued talking to the neighbors.
Escalation: Irshad’s uncle, Mubarak, arrived at the scene and grabbed Irshad by the neck. Shortly after, Mubarak’s two sons—Ishtiyaq and a minor—joined them.
The Attack: The minor accused allegedly fetched a knife from inside the house and handed it to his elder brother. Ishtiyaq then stabbed Irshad.

Aftermath
Irshad collapsed immediately. Neighbors rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Police Action And Investigation
Upon receiving the complaint, the Neb Sarai police registered a case of murder.
Arrests: The police have arrested two accused: Rihana and the minor involved in the incident.
Manhunt: A search is currently underway for the remaining two accused, Mubarak and his elder son, Ishtiyaq, who are absconding.
Current Status: Police are interrogating the arrested individuals and gathering further information from residents in the vicinity to build a strong case.
