A gang of women who used to steal from passengers during peak hours on the Delhi Metro has been busted. The Nehru Place Metro Police have arrested four women from this gang and have also recovered stolen money from them.

According to the Metro Police, the arrested women have been identified as Lakshmi (alias Jyoti), Sanjana, Sandhya, and Janhvi, all residents of Kathputli Colony in Shadipur. This action was taken after a passenger named Rajendra Chauhan filed a complaint of theft with the Metro Police on Thursday.

In his complaint, passenger Rajendra stated that cash was stolen from his bag while he was traveling between the Lajpat Nagar and Majlis Park stations. Based on this complaint, a case was registered at the Nehru Place Metro Police Station and an investigation was launched. The police examined CCTV footage, which revealed that the suspected women who committed the crime had headed towards the Sarai Kale Khan Metro Station.

Based on this information, the police laid a trap near the Sarai Kale Khan-Nizamuddin Metro Station and apprehended all four women. During interrogation, it was revealed that these women operated as a gang and specifically targeted crowded metro trains during peak hours to commit theft. They would create various excuses to distract passengers and steal their belongings as soon as they got an opportunity. The police recovered Rs 2,000 in cash from the accused, Lakshmi.
