The cabinet of Uttarakhand's Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, is expected to get a new look before the state's silver jubilee celebrations. It's almost certain that more ministers will be added and a reshuffle will also take place. Out of the five vacant minister positions, three to four could be filled, while it's also possible that two or three current ministers could be dropped.

After a week of back-to-back meetings with lawmakers (MLAs), Chief Minister Dhami arrived in Delhi on Friday for a three-day trip. It is expected that during this visit, he will get the green light from the BJP's top leadership for this cabinet expansion.

The BJP's top leaders are being very cautious about this expansion and reshuffle. The changes could be based on the performance of the current ministers, their public image, and any anti-government sentiment among the people. Besides this, the party is also preparing to send a strategic message for the 2027 state elections by balancing regional and social representation.

The Dhami cabinet is expected to become stronger after the results of the upcoming local city and village (panchayat) elections, which are being seen as a "semi-final" before the next major state election. Currently, 5 out of a total of 12 cabinet positions are empty, with seven members including the Chief Minister. Many MLAs are in the running for these vacant spots, including some who have been ministers in previous BJP governments.

This process of reshuffling and expansion also carries the risk of creating fresh dissatisfaction within the party. Because of this, the BJP's top leadership is also working on a strategy to manage any unhappiness. Before the cabinet is changed, the state BJP president, Mahendra Bhatt, will form his new team, a process that is now in its final stage. Keeping in mind the party organization's crucial role in the next election, senior leaders, MPs, and MLAs have their eyes on important party posts. Balancing regional and community factors will also be a priority within the party organization.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was previously in Delhi for three days on August 21st, and he arrived in the capital again this Friday. During his three-day trip, he will meet with central government ministers, and it is highly likely that the BJP top leadership will give its final approval for the new lineup of his cabinet.
