'Phool Walon Ki Sair', considered a traditional cultural identity of the capital, Delhi, will now finally be able to be held. The historic festival, which was scheduled for November 2, had to be postponed due to a lack of permission. It is now likely that it will be organised in February or March.

According to information, permission to organise 'Phool Walon Ki Sair' has been granted following the intervention of Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena. The file for the event had remained pending because an order from the previous AAP government on November 28, 2023 had prohibited permission for any such festival or event in the Southern Ridge area.

The Lieutenant Governor took cognisance of the matter, issued instructions to the relevant officials, and expressed his displeasure at the delay. He warned that indifference and an unresponsive attitude from officials in matters concerning the public will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

'Phool Walon Ki Sair' is considered a symbol of Delhi's Ganga syncretic culture, in which the Hindu and Muslim communities participate together. Following the Lieutenant Governor's intervention, there is now hope of seeing this tradition revived.

This cultural festival of Delhi is a living symbol of Hindu-Muslim unity. Its foundation was laid in 1812 during the era of the Mughal ruler Akbar Shah II (Sani). The event continued uninterrupted until 1942 but was stopped by the British administration. It was then revived in 1962 with the help of the central government, and since then, this tradition has been maintained every year in the park near Jahaz Mahal.
