Following the explosion near the Red Fort, which exposed critical weaknesses in the capital's security apparatus, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has taken serious note of the lapses. He has instructed the Chief Secretary to immediately study the drone policies of Telangana and Himachal Pradesh to facilitate a comprehensive upgrade of Delhi’s drone surveillance framework.

Terror Warning And Immediate Requirements

According to the LG's office, this incident serves not only as a terror warning but also as a clear indication of significant security aspects requiring immediate improvement.

Digital Sky Access: LG Saxena stated that the Central Government's 'Digital Sky' platform—used for nationwide drone registration—must be made accessible to the Delhi Police and the Home Department with “dynamic access.”

Real-Time Monitoring: This access is crucial for the immediate monitoring of non-civilian or suspicious drone activities, allowing agencies to identify and neutralize potential threats in a timely manner.

Learning From Model States

The LG highlighted that the IT departments of Telangana and Himachal Pradesh have formulated policies that successfully balance technology, security, and development.

Telangana: The state’s policy includes an ambitious plan to develop a ‘Drone City’, envisioned as the country's leading UAV testing and business hub.

Himachal Pradesh: Their policy extensively promotes drone usage in governance, surveying, e-governance, and research, while also preparing students for this emerging sector.

Future Strategy

Officials believe that the experience of these two states will play a major role in transforming Delhi into a secure, smart and technology-based surveillance ecosystem.

New Security Blueprint: A new security strategy for Delhi will be prepared shortly following a comparative analysis of these policies.

Focus Areas: The strategy will place special emphasis on the real-time monitoring of drone movements over sensitive areas.

This initiative is viewed as a potential game-changer for security agencies in the wake of the Red Fort incident.
