Following the recent protests in Leh, and the subsequent order to cancel the FCRA license of social activist Sonam Wangchuk's organisation and investigate its foreign funding, AAP Convenor Arvind Kejriwal has come out in his support.

On this matter, AAP said, "The person who thinks for the country, brings about change in education, and provides new solutions to save the environment, is today being made a victim of the petty politics of those in power."

It is against this that Arvind Kejriwal has openly come forward. He said that the BJP government, intoxicated with power, is suppressing the voice of the people and weakening the foundations of democracy.

Ladakh's People Are Demanding Their Constitutional Rights

Kejriwal further said that the people of Ladakh are not demanding any special privileges but are only asking for their constitutional rightto vote and to elect their own government. However, despite repeated promises, the BJP is not granting them this right.

Kejriwal said that India did not gain independence from the British for its people to become slaves to the BJP in place of the British. "Revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh and Chandrashekhar Azad sacrificed their lives for democracy, but today the BJP is stripping people of their rights by turning states into union territories," he stated. "If the voice of Ladakh is ignored today, tomorrow it will become the voice of the entire country."

He added, "The people of Ladakh are struggling today not only for their own rights but also to protect the country's democratic framework. Their courage and unity prove that when the people are determined, they can make those in power yield."

Arvind Kejriwal described this struggle as the voice of the nation, saying that democracy will only survive if every Indian stands with Ladakh.

'This Fight Is Not Sonam Wangchuk's Alone'

"Sonam Wangchuk's life is also an inspiration," Kejriwal noted. "In 1988, he founded SECMOL, paving a new way for educational reform, opened alternative schools for students who had failed, and developed techniques such as the 'ice stupa' to combat the climate crisis. He also supported the abrogation of Article 370, as he is a proponent of India's unity."

Kejriwal added that the fight is not Sonam Wangchuk's alone, but one for the rights of every Indian and for democracy. "Suppressing the voice of Ladakh today is to weaken the democracy of the entire country. Therefore, it is the duty of every citizen to stand with this struggle, because today, Ladakh's fight is the true fight for democracy."
