A 24-year-old woman constable of the Delhi Police, serving as a SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) commando with the Special Cell, succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday, five days after her husband allegedly assaulted her with a metal dumbbell at their home in southwest Delhi’s Mohan Garden. The deceased, identified as Kajal Chaudhary, died at a private hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad.
According to a report by The Times of India, after assaulting his wife with a dumbbell, Ankur allegedly slammed her head repeatedly against a door frame at their residence. The accused, identified as Ankur, husband of Kajal, was later arrested and now faces charges of murder.
Police had initially registered a case of attempt to murder against Ankur at the Mohan Garden police station. However, after Kajal’s death, murder charges were added to the case. “The accused husband has been arrested and sent to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway,” a senior police official said.
Investigating agencies said that Ankur himself took the critically injured Kajal to Tarak Hospital in Mohan Garden, where she was admitted in a critical condition. Given the severity of her injuries, she was later shifted to a private hospital in Ghaziabad, where she succumbed to her injuries on January 27, 2026.
Why Did The Incident Take Place?
According to Kajal’s brother, Nikhil, who works as a constable at the Parliament Street police station, the couple, both natives of Ganaur in Haryana, had a dispute on January 22, which escalated into a brutal attack.
“Kajal called me up when the argument escalated,” Nikhil added, stating that while his sister was speaking to him on the phone, Ankur began hitting her on the head with the dumbbell. “Five minutes later, Ankur called me up and bluntly informed me of the assault,” Nikhil said.
According to a Delhi Police officer investigating the case, the couple had taken some loans and often had disputes related to this and other household expenses, which ended up in a brutal dispute.
