The attackers had planned to carry liquid explosives disguised as common drinks and combine them mid-air to create bombs. Their plan included 10 planes, all flying over the Atlantic Ocean, to kill thousands of people at once.

Fortunately, 21 people were taken into custody in well-coordinated overnight raids throughout London before the plan could be carried out. Although there were no fatalities or injuries because the plot was halted before any flights took off, the threat was very real and grave.

To stop such threats in future, aviation authorities around the world quickly introduced new security rules that limit how much liquid you can carry in your hand baggage.

What’s the Liquid Rule on Airport?
