The library of Parliament in New Delhi has well-preserved the original copies of the Indian Constitution, which are written in both Hindi and English. The library has not just kept them there, but they are underneath special nitrogen-filled cases, according to PIB. This is done to ensure the fragile paper and ink are not harmed by the environment, especially the humidity, insects, and decay. This form of preservation is invaluable and necessary for national documents that need to be preserved for the generations.

These original constitutions of India were written by Prem Behari Narain Raizada in a fine, flowing italic handwriting, along with beautiful illustrations of borders made by the artists of Santiniketan, led by Nandalal Bose. The Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution on November 26, 1949, which is celebrated as the National Law Day or the Constitution Day of India. Later, on the 26th of January, which is celebrated as Republic Day of India, the Constitution came into effect.

Historically, the copies of the Indian Constitution were packed in flannel cloth and stored together with naphthalene balls. However, in 1994, the Government of India took a preservation process, one step ahead by storing them in a scientific gas chamber, known as the nitrogen-filled receptacle in the Library of Parliament. This place is strategically secured and protected, as it is a home to India’s one ofthe building block documents, which is the sole reason for the political structure, rights and obligations of the citizens of India.
